Far Far West First Impressions — Robot Cowboy Pyromancers, Fire Tornadoes, and Actual Nuclear Bombs

Deep Rock Galactic + Helldivers + spell-casting robot cowboys with nukes. First-time Far Far West co-op impressions, discovering the fire tornado spell combo, rubber duck jokers, and why this is one of the best games of the year.
Howdy partner. Far Far West is a game full of godless undead, world-bending, spell-casting cowboys, and an alarming amount of nuclear weapons. There are very few games I play 5 minutes of and instantly fall in love with — this is one of them.

Here's the pitch: Deep Rock Galactic's missions and gunplay + Helldivers' open-world objective style + spell-casting robot cowboys. That's it. That's the game.
The thing that sold me? Despite playing as robotic cowboys, you can cast spells like some kind of deranged wild west warlock. So I went full pyromancy and eventually became as big of a threat to my team as the actual enemies — and I truly did not care because fire tornado.
First Impressions — The Deep Rock DNA

Within the first mission, we hit gold nodes:
"Guys, you're going to be very happy to know you can find nodes of gold in this game and mine it."
Then someone yelled "Rock and Stone" and it was over. This game absolutely has Deep Rock Galactic in its bloodstream — mining objectives, resource collection, coordinated extraction, and the same "everything goes wrong at once" chaotic energy.
The Robot Cowboy Warlock Fantasy

The elevator pitch for spells: you're a robot. You're a cowboy. You cast fireballs. It shouldn't work. It absolutely does.
Pyromancy Highlights
| Moment | Reaction |
|---|---|
| Fire Beam + Supercharge | "Every time I use fire beam with supercharge, it is just the Roy Mustang scene." |
| Fire Spell wipes squad | "That incinerated that whole squad. That was so good." |
| Fire Tornado discovery | "WHAT HAVE WE CREATED? PYROMANCY IS TOO POWERFUL." |
| Combined tech | "Did we hit some crazy combined tech?" |
The fire tornado moment — created accidentally by two players' pyromancy spells overlapping — is peak Far Far West. You'll never forget your first one.
Nuclear Bombs? Sure, Why Not

The game has nukes. Yes, actual nuclear weapons. You find them, you drop them, you obliterate the local biosphere.
Best quote from the run:
"Why'd they make such a big deal about the Manhattan Project if a nuke is really just nine bundles of dynamite taped together?"
And later, after finding another one:
"Get on the train. I'm ironically here. Oh my god, I can't see. 4 HP."
The game has an alarming amount of nuclear weapons for a western. That's part of the charm.
The Boss That Enrages From One Bullet

Speaking of alarming — the ancient ritual tree fight:
"Let's blow up the ancient ritual tree. Nothing can go bad."
"Oh, no. It's all going to go bad."
"He's ENRAGED?? You instantly enraged him with a single BULLET."
Boss awareness in this game is very high. Sneeze at a boss and its rage phase starts. Learned this the hard way.
Robot Cow, Wheelin' Bone Crack Knuckles, and Other Wild Enemies

The enemy roster is chef's kiss:
| Enemy | Description |
|---|---|
| Robot Cow | Yes. Cows. But robot. "One of my favorite guys." |
| Wheelin' Bone Crack Knuckles | The sickest skeleton mini-boss ever named |
| Kamikaze Cactus | The reason your extraction ended in tears |
| Slingers | Long-range projectile snipers |
| Horsemen | Massive HP roaming mini-bosses |
The names alone justify the price of admission.
The Fishing Rod Debate

Mid-run discovery: you can pick up a fishing rod. This started an important conversation:
"Yo, Lead Dev, if you're actually the Lead Dev for this game — I think you've made a masterpiece. But if you add a fishing rod here and DON'T eventually add a fishing minigame like 4 years down the line, I will be upset."
Consider this an official request to the Evil Raptor team. Fishing minigame. Please.
The Rubber Duck Joker Nightmare

Then someone equipped the Walking Makes Rubber Duck Noises joker:
"Walking makes rubber duck noises."
"I HATE THIS. SPONGEBOB, ME BOY."
"The rubber ducks as I'm walking is going to actually drive me nuts."
Every step. Squeak. For an entire mission. This is what the game does to you. Cursed Jokers > optimized loadout every time.
Woodland Map + Rain Spell = Peak Content

Discovering the Woodland map and pairing it with Rain:
"This is like archmage mega spells we have now. This is crazy."
"Dude, there's puddles everywhere."
"It kills all the birds instantly. Beautiful. Just like real acid rain."
Rain has a huge radius and moves fast. When multiple players stack it on the same area, you get map-wide DPS with basically no counterplay for the enemy.
The Random Loot That Changes Everything

Best quote about random powerups:
"I got another Bribe. I get an extra jump. I get TWO jumps. That's actually kind of too insane, right?"
Random buffs stack. If you find enough of them, you can double jump, triple jump, or turn into a walking fire tornado. The game rewards greed.
Extraction Chaos
The extraction sequence:
"The boss is arriving. The mini-boss is here. GET ON THE TRAIN IMMEDIATELY."
Cue everyone running for the train while dodging elite spawns, projectiles, and the horseman who spawned mid-extraction to ruin your day. The train pulls in, the funky extraction music plays, and 40% of the run's chaos happens in these final 30 seconds.
Standard Far Far West extraction. Beautiful.
Final Verdict
This is one of my favorite games of the year.
