Step-by-step guide to unlocking every weapon in Far Far West through Fragments, assembling them at the Gunsmith, and leveling weapons fast for Joker slots.

You start Far Far West with the Quad Cylinder and the Revolver. Every other weapon is built from Fragments collected during missions, then assembled at the Gunsmith in the Saloon. This guide covers the full unlock and upgrade path.

How to Unlock Weapons

Step 1: Track Fragments

Open the weapons manager in the Saloon and press Track Fragments on the weapon you want. Only one weapon can be tracked per mission, so commit to a single target.

Step 2: Collect Fragments

Run missions to collect Fragments. They drop from:

  • Bosses — always drop one Fragment on kill
  • Wishing Wells — toss in for a chance at a Fragment
  • Coyotes — hunt them down before they flee
  • Forge/anvil events — marked by a hammer icon on the mission map

Step 3: Assemble the Weapon

Collect 6 Fragments total to complete the blueprint, then take it to the Gunsmith in the Saloon and pay Gold to assemble the weapon: 500 Gold for primaries and 300 Gold for secondaries. It then becomes selectable in your loadout.

Weapon unlock process

Unlock Priority

Not all weapons are equal. Here is the recommended unlock order based on our weapon tier list:

PriorityWeaponWhy
1stShotgun or MinigunImmediate power spike over the Quad Cylinder starter
2ndDual RevolversTop trash-clear sidearm via reload-throw detonations
3rdLong RangerSpecialist pick for elites and precision builds
4thBowScales into AoE with its endgame Joker
5thLeveredgeStrong single-target once built out (trending up)
LastBoomerang, Sheriff StarsNiche picks, unlock after core weapons

How to Upgrade Weapons

Unlocking a weapon is the floor, not the ceiling. The real power spike comes from leveling it and unlocking Joker Slots.

Two Systems Run in Parallel

  1. Weapon XP — earned from combat damage dealt with that weapon
  2. Gold upgrades — spent at the Gunsmith for base-stat improvements

Upgrade Priority

StatWhen to Prioritize
DamageFirst for almost every primary
Fire RateSecond for Minigun, Leveredge
Reload SpeedSecond for Shotgun, Quad Cylinder
Magazine SizeThird for sustained-fire builds

How to Level Weapons Fast

  • Use the weapon you are leveling — passive carry while spells do the work earns nothing
  • Higher difficulty improves XP returns — but only if you actually clear the run
  • Do not split progress — leveling one weapon to its first Joker Slot is a bigger power gain than half-leveling several
  • Failed runs cancel out the XP advantage — prioritize accuracy over fire rate while leveling

Joker Slots

Joker Slots are where weapons change tier. Each weapon unlocks slots as it levels:

WeaponGame-Changing Joker
ShotgunOverblast — +1 pellet per missing round in the magazine
Quad CylinderAiming Burst — Perfect accuracy while aiming
MinigunFrenzy Spin — Fire rate doubles past 10 kills
LeveredgeEagle Lever — +5% damage per consecutive hit, up to +50%
BowOverdraw — 2s charge fires a 3-arrow cone

Plan your upgrade path around reaching that first Joker Slot quickly. A fully Joker-slotted weapon outperforms a higher-tier weapon that has not been built out yet. For detailed stats and Joker recommendations, see our best primary weapons breakdown.

Fragment Farming Tips

  • Run the highest difficulty you can consistently clear
  • Always check the map for hammer icons (anvil stations)
  • Boss kills guarantee one Fragment per run
  • Track only one weapon at a time to avoid diluting drops
  • Co-op runs with friends can clear faster, increasing Fragments per hour
